Unveiling the Untold Stories: PBS North’s “United in Service” Premieres This June

Understanding the intersection of military service and the unique character of the Northland.

The windswept landscapes and close-knit communities of Northern Minnesota have a rich and often untold history of military service. This June, PBS North is proud to present “United in Service: Military History From America’s Northland,” a powerful documentary narrated by Joel McKinnon Miller that explores the profound connection between military service and the unique identity of those who call the Northland home.

From the courageous Native American Code Talkers of World War II to the dedicated members of the 148th Fighter Wing, “United in Service” offers a poignant exploration of what it truly means to serve as a Northlander. This compelling documentary shines a light on the diverse experiences of individuals who have answered the call to duty, preserving their invaluable stories for generations to come.

The documentary features insightful interviews with:

  • Jeff Savage, Director of the Fond du Lac Museum
  • Diana Oes, Iraq War veteran and author of “Waging Peace”
  • Kathleen Cargill, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution
  • Chance Fortune, National Guard member who served during the George Floyd protests and the Afghanistan withdrawal
  • Jeremy Manthey, Aircrew Flight Equipment, 148th Fighter Wing.
  • Dapper Danielson, Vietnam War veteran.
  • Michelle Miller, Historic Duluth Armory Co-Executive Director.
