These sweet and savory brussel sprouts will be your ultimate vegetable appetizer or side dish.
Ingredients
- 1 lb fresh brussels sprouts
- 3-4 strips of bacon
- Fresh Parmesan cheese shredded
- Balsamic vinaigrette glaze
- Salt and pepper to taste
Tools
Chef knife, cutting board, large pot with lid, large skillet, colander, serving bowel, serving spoon
Instructions
- Chop off the butts of the brussel sprouts and cut the sprouts in half.
- In a colander, rinse the brussel sprouts with cold water.
- Fill a large pot a quarter of the way with water.
- Dump the brussel sprouts into the pot, and place a lid on top.
- Heat the pot on the stove at medium to high heat.
- As the brussel sprouts are steaming, in a large skillet cook bacon until it is crispy.
- Set bacon aside for later, but keep the bacon fat in the skillet.
- Once the brussel sprouts turn a bright green (about 10 minutes steaming) strain them and pour them into the skillet containing the bacon fat.
- Simmer them over medium heat until the sprouts get somewhat charred and crispy on the outside.
- Season with salt and pepper to your liking, then pour sprouts into a serving bowl.
- Rough chop the bacon and mix it in with the brussel sprouts.
- With each portion served, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and drizzle with balsamic glaze (it will get soggy if you do it beforehand).
- Serve hot, and enjoy.
